Thinking about Refugees    There are thousands of refugees in the world. We see them on television, we see them on the news, we see them in the newspapers, we see them on the streets, but do we really see them? It is important to understand the reasons why a person becomes a refugee, the way they are seen by other people and the role international organizations have towards them.    According to the Cambridge Dictionary, a refugee is “a person who has escaped from their own country for political , religious , or economic reasons or because of a war ”. Therefore, as it can be inferred from the definitions, nobody becomes a refugee because they enjoy that kind of lifestyle. There are many causes which drive a person to become a refugee. One of them can be a natural hazard that has devastated their homeland, as it happened in Haiti in 2010. Another cause is war and political persecution as it happened in Syria. Violence, extreme poverty, lack of food and me...

This has been a project that has enriched me a lot, not only due to the academic information that I have acknowledged, but also because I got immersed in a topic that I didn't know much about.. Regarding academic writing I started paying more attention to the structure of my pieces of writing , I used to pay more attention to the content rather than the structure of it, and I realized both things are equally important. In connection to the topic chosen for this project, I found it really interesting and the best thing of all, I think that many peoplewereable to empathise and understand better their situation, The most important thing , in my opinion, was that nobody lives in bad conditions because they are happy and they like living like that, and this is extensive to refugees as well as other people who do not have the same opportunities  that we have. We Refugees BY  Benjamin Zephaniah I come from a musica l place Where they shoot me for my song And my brother has be...

The Study of Lanfuage  Yule, G. (2010). The study of Language. U.K.: CUP UNIT 1&2   Unit 1  THE ORIGINS OF LANGUAGE .  We do not know how language originated because there is lack of written evidence, but some of the hypothesis or theories are: The Divine Source, The Natural Sound Source, The Social Interaction Source, The Physical Adaptation source, The tool-making source and The genetic source Unit 2 Communication We must distinguish between specifically communicative signals , when you use the language to intentionally communicate something, and  unintentionally informative signals, when somebody infers the way you are or feel due to a number of signals that you have  unintentionally sent. Properties of Human Language All creatures communicate, but only humans have the property of REFLEXIVITY or REFLEXIVENESS. This means that we can use language to think and talk about language itself. The Theory of reflexivity allows us to identify other...

This was very interesting so a as to reflect upon the way we teach process writing to our students. Do we always give them the time to go over the three steps? I believe that the the prewriting stage is really important because is where they will wet the tools to make a good piece of writing, of course they will also have to showa good management og the language, but the ideas and vocabulary are fundamental. One thing that called my attention was that a "publishing" stage was not mentioned. I usually make students publish their work, Depending on the task it can be to post it on a blog, to write it on a colour page, to create a mini book, to add illustrations to it. I think it gives a great closure to their work. The second part of the activity made me think of the way we have to think about academic writing. I realized that we must not forget to go over the stages we ask our students to do. Obviously that our analysis demands another type of research and planning but we hav...

I found SFL very interesting. Even though there were some thing that are mentioned here that I use in my classes it was fantastic to have the theoretical background of it. I try to use visible thinking with my students so It is inevitable to connect it to SFL because we need to ask ourselves questions we need to go deeper that simply what the words say.  I do believe that we a social beings so it everything we do is connected to a context. Nothing makes sense if we do not contextualize it. We would end up , in our case, just teaching grammar structures which I don't think is the correct way to take.  I do believe that all our students should have the same opportunities and I do believe that SFL is very important not only helps with second language acquisition or any content area but also with what I find ,as a teacher,my main aim: critical thinking.
