METACOGNITIVE ANALYSIS
VIdeos are really helpful at the time of teaching and learning things. They are appealing and in many cases, students prefer watching a video to reading some notes. Of course we should be very careful at the time of choosing the material we want to share. We need to be sure that it is the appropriate level, that it is the convenient length and that the language used on it is understandable for students. In this particular case, the video was very clear so as to explain the concepts and the animation was enjoyable.
According to British linguist J.L. Austin (1911-1960)there are two types of statements; CONSTATIVE statements and PERFORMATIVE statements. Constative statements can be True or False according to the context. Performative statements are meant to inspire actions. Sometimes there are words that are actions themselves, they are called SPEECH ACTS, some examples are: ordering, promising apologizing warning marrying among others. However, performative statements depend on the context and the reception of the message known as FELICITY CONDITIONS. There are some conditions that have to be met for a speech act to become an action. The performative should: have authority, be understood, be clear and be able to be executed.Despite the fact these felicity conditions are met it is not meant that the performative is followed
